A guide to our excursions
Not sure yet which excursion is right for you? Here are a few quick notes on the highlights and what to expect from each one.

Panama City
The highlight of the Panama City excursion is a walk through the colonial old town. We then take the bus out to the Amador Causeway, a waterfront promenade on the Pacific at the mouth of the Panama Canal, with a great view of the skyline.
Especially suitable for: Culture lovers, city strollers and souvenir shoppers. A longer walk, suitable for wheelchairs and prams.

Monkey Island
The Monkey Island excursion takes us on a roughly 2-hour boat trip across Lake Gatún. We pass through the Panama Canal right alongside the ocean giants. Even though the route runs through the canal, the setting feels wonderfully wild: the shores and hills are blanketed in tropical rainforest, and on some islands we spot Panama’s monkeys, sloths, birds and reptiles.
Especially suitable for: Nature and animal lovers, and anyone who’d like to see the Panama Canal from a different angle. Children are thrilled by the monkeys.

Embera
To meet the Embera, we travel by dugout canoe to a village of this indigenous people of Panama, where you’ll get a feel for their daily life and culture. The boat ride takes you through plenty of rainforest along the way.
Especially suitable for: Adventurers, culture lovers, children, and anyone who’s always wanted to visit an indigenous village in the rainforest.

Camino Real
By dugout canoe we head into Chagres National Park, where we take a roughly two-hour hike along the Camino Real. Afterwards we visit a village of smallholder farmers in the rainforest for a delicious local lunch. With a bit of luck, the boat trip turns up a few bird species too.
Especially suitable for: Hikers, anyone keen on nature and history, children from around 6 years, and anyone wanting to escape the crowds.
