All about Panama travel
Everything you need to know about Panama:

Panamatura – Sustainable travel
And yes, sustainability and the development of the regions and villages we visit matter a great deal to us. Christian Strassnig, the founder of Panamatura, got to know and love Panama during his social-work internship in 1999. He was fascinated by the rainforest and the history of Panama, and in 2003 he first heard of the Camino Real. At that time the path still lay hidden in the jungle, and from 2007 onwards he began to rediscover it. At the same time he started leading and organising trips.
Between 2007 and 2011, his research expeditions led him over 600 kilometres through the rainforests of Chagres and Portobelo National Park, and together with his team he was able to recover over 90 percent of the original route. In 2011 he began organising the first tours to the smallholder villages along the Camino Real, and carrying out projects for sustainable development and the preservation of the rainforest and cultural heritage. Especially in times of climate change, every contribution to avoiding CO2 matters, and sustainable tourism in the villages helps prevent deforestation and supports the regrowth of the natural rainforest.

We did an extremely exciting hike on the Camino Real with Christian. The story of the gold and silver of the mule caravans that passed along this route is fascinating. The food in the village was excellent too. Highly recommended!

We were warmly welcomed and embraced by Anna right on time on 19/03/2025, which was already a good start. Once everyone had arrived, we set off for Panama City. She explained a great deal and shared her broad knowledge with us. Along the way we actually spotted a sloth and we could all photograph it. After that we went to the old town, took a walk and still had some free time. Finally we drove to the Agua Clara Locks and were lucky, as a cruise ship was just passing through the lock. Here too we could move around freely and take everything in at our leisure. We arrived in Colón on time and can only thank you again most warmly for this wonderful day. We can recommend you 100%.

With Christian we experienced a wonderfully relaxed yet very informative day: a detailed visit to the locks, then by dugout canoe into a real Emberá village reachable only by water, where we learned so much about the culture and life of the indigenous people. On the way between the various stops, Christian told us a lot about the country, its history and his own life. Also very important as a cruise-ship excursion: punctual and reliable, all arrangements and wishes taken into account. We can only recommend it, many thanks for this day!
